You have to pay for it. The home security company will monitor your place 24/7. Any intruder, smoking alarm is sounded, they will call the cop and fire station right the way. But is it the safest way having alarm?
Dog can save your home. They will bark when someone enter your house. It is nature alarm. Dog has strong smell and hearing. They can detect sound from hundred meters. having a big dog is better because they can bark louder and intimidated the intruder. So dog can help you to protect your home. Remember, you have to treat and train the dog well.
